A thunderous applause filled a 400-seat Oklahoma theater after the premiere of a student-made feature film. Azman Abdulla (Maldives, UWC Mahindra, University of Oklahoma ’25) served as student producer, coordinating city permits, reviewing contracts, and negotiating deals. As cofounder of Green Light Studios, an exceptionally successful student-led film production venture, Azman played a key role steering this remarkable project.
Azman began his creative career in the Maldives, offering local coffee shops videos in exchange for practical client experience. At OU, he gained deeper technical skills and discovered an unexpected passion: the legal side of filmmaking.
This discovery led him to become one of two pioneer recipients of the new Davis-Geier Comfort scholarship provides full funding for a UWC OU graduate to pursue a Juris Doctorate at OU’s College of Law immediately after undergraduate completion. Before learning about this scholarship, Azman did not believe that law school was a realistic option for him.
“My favorite part about being a Davis UWC Scholar at OU was the community I was gifted with,” Azman reflects. From supportive friend circles to encouraging professors, his community empowered him to exceed his greatest dreams. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA, earned President’s and Dean’s Honors Rolls every semester, and received the outstanding senior award for Creative Media Production.
Now a first-year OU Law student, Azman hopes to combine creative and legal expertise to lead a film production company while mentoring upcoming artists. “My experiences taught me to explore beyond my comfort zone,” he says, “learning more about the world and navigating its complex challenges.”
