Former Scholars Deepening Partnerships: Rojay Robert Bryan

Rojay Robert Bryan (Jamaica, UWC Southeast Asia, Bennington College ’22) chose to matriculate to Bennington because of its open curriculum, and the freedom to design his own path of study. That allowed him to combine his interests in policy, agriculture, and sustainability. “My time at Bennington was nothing short of transformative. Studying public policy, sustainable agriculture, and agroecology not only gave me the tools to think critically about complex systems but also helped me build a deeper connection to the land and to myself. Bennington’s deep sense of community and focus on practical, hands-on skills made it the perfect place to explore ideas, connect with others, and prepare for meaningful work in the world.” Currently, Rojay works at Bennington as the Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, a role that involves creating programs and initiatives that foster equity and belonging on campus, advising international students, and building collaborations that strengthen community. “It’s work that constantly challenges me to think expansively while staying rooted in the idea that real, lasting change begins with relationships and trust,” he notes.
Rojay is grateful to the Davis UWC Scholars Program for giving him access to an education that he could have only otherwise dreamed of. He pays that forward by working to live the UWC mission and values every day. “Whether I’m working to create spaces where everyone feels seen or simply reflecting on how to show up better in the world, I find myself returning to the principles of sustainability, connection, and service that UWC instilled in me. It’s a work in progress, but it’s a path I’m proud to be on.”
