UWC Graduate Supports Community Through COVID-19

Luther College’s DUWCSP Kelao Charmaine Neumbo '22, a graduate of UWC Robert Bosch College, is stepping up to help her community during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Neumbo studies global health at Luther, and therefore it should come as no surprise that throughout our current global health crisis she felt compelled to involve herself in streamlining access to vital healthcare services and information for minority groups in her community.

Neumbo connected with Dr. Jane Njeru, a consultant physician with the Mayo Clinic Division of Community Internal Medicine, through the Rochester Healthy Community Partnership (RHCP), a preexisting program that looks to combat issues of access for minority members of the Rochester community. As a result, Neumbo crafted a sign-up tool with the express goal of making it easier for members of these communities to determine their vaccination eligibility status, and gain access to other information about the vaccine rollout.

Speaking to Megan Zemple of local news station KTTC, Neumbo had this to say about the process: “I'm so honored to say that I contributed. It's not a lot, but it's something. We are all doing our part to achieve health equity. This is probably one of the most meaningful experiences I've had."
