Our 38 Davis UWC Scholars at the College of Idaho took the lead recently in producing an International Cultural Show for the Caldwell community. It was a rousing success — an evening of song and dance, magic and comedy, undertaken to benefit a local elementary school that had lost its budget for field trips due to cutbacks in state aid to education. The students donated nearly $500 to the school, but more importantly they modeled for all our students the need to care for a local community no matter how distantly one’s geographical and cultural roots happen to lie. Our Davis UWC Scholars showed that the mantra of the environmental movement —‘Think Globally, Act Locally’ — applies equally to the public good of education.
