UWC of the Adriatic

UWC of the Adriatic

UWC of the Adriatic was founded in 1982 and was the first UWC outside the Englishspeaking world. It is located 20km from Trieste in northeastern Italy, integrated into the Italian/Slovene village of Duino. All students at the college study Italian, and the school buildings and residences are spread throughout the village. The social-service program seeks to further involve students with the local community.

UWC of the Atlantic

UWC of the Atlantic

Founded in 1962, UWC of the Atlantic was the first UWC. The college is located in the 12th-century St. Donats Castle on the south Wales coastline. Students can train to become full members of rescue services such as beach lifeguards, cliff rescue, and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). There is an RNLI station on campus, with students and staff providing 24-hour sea rescue for the local area.

UWC of Costa Rica

UWC of Costa Rica

UWC of Costa Rica, located in Santa Ana near the capital San Jose, is UWC’s only bilingual school, teaching the IB in English and Spanish. It became a UWC in 2006, having been originally founded in 2000 as the International SOS College. UWC of Costa Rica’s approach
is built upon three fundamental pillars: peace, environment, and multiculturalism.

Li Po Chun UWC

Li Po Chun UWC

Li Po Chun UWC of Hong Kong was founded in 1982, and the purpose-built residential campus is situated in Hong Kong’s New Territories. In daily life, the college emphasizes the strong Chinese traditions of proper conduct, practical wisdom, appropriate social relationships, and respect for academic learning. Strong links have been developed between the college and various parts of China, especially for service activities.

Mahindra UWC of India

Mahindra UWC of India

Mahindra UWC of India, founded in 1997, is located in a rural area of the western Ghats, 40km from Pune, India. The college has dedicated much of its land to a biodiversity park and conservation reserve which is used as a study resource for local schools and colleges as well as UWC students. Mahindra UWC supports local schools with its educational program, Akshara, and community service projects.

UWC Maastricht

UWC Maastricht

UWC Maastricht in the Netherlands was founded in 2009 as the merger of two existing international schools. It is the third UWC school educating younger students as well as teaching the IB diploma, providing students of other ages the opportunity to gain a UWC experience. UWC Maastricht will serve as a center for expertise for community services (CECS) and a center for short courses.

UWC in Mostar

UWC in Mostar

UWC in Mostar is the first UWC with an explicit aim to contribute to the reconstruction of a post-conflict society, and also the first to be housed within an existing public school. UWC in Mostar students come from all ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as from the region and abroad. All students live, study, and volunteer in the community together, making a unique example of integrated education in postwar Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Lester B. Pearson UWC of the Pacific

Lester B. Pearson UWC of the Pacific

Lester B. Pearson UWC of the Pacific was founded in 1974 and is located on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The floating marine-sciences center contains a well-equipped seafront environmental-systems lab, and students conduct research above and below water at nearby Race Rocks, an ecological reserve managed by the college. The college’s location enables students to engage in activities both on land and at sea.

Red Cross Nordic UWC opened in 1995 on the shores of Flekke fjord in the west of Norway. The traditions of both the Nordic countries and of the Red Cross are reflected in the emphasis placed on Nordic studies and humanitarian and environmental concerns. Cooperation with the Red Cross opens a variety of avenues for service opportunities in such areas as first aid, lifesaving, youth training, and humanitarian action.

Simón Bolívar UWC of Agriculture

Simón Bolívar UWC of Agriculture

Simón Bolívar UWC of Agriculture in Barinas, Venezuela is the only vocational UWC college, offering a Higher Diploma in Farm Administration. Teaching at Simón Bolívar UWC is in Spanish and students are already high school graduates. The vocational nature of the Simón Bolívar Diploma is reinforced by a four-month internship in an agricultural enterprise and a four-week placement in a rural community close to the college.

UWC of South East Asia

UWC of South East Asia

UWC of South East Asia was the second UWC to open, and now educates students ages 4–18 at two campuses in Singapore. It is the largest UWC school, with around 3,500 students. The school’s global-concerns program introduces students to concepts of leadership and organization, and students are encouraged to establish their own initiatives. All students are involved in the school’s community service program.

Waterford KaHhlaba UWC of Southern Africa

Waterford KaMhlaba UWC of Southern Africa is located just outside the capital of
Swaziland, Mbabane. A pan-African institution with a global outlook, the students and staff are committed to understanding and addressing the complex challenges facing Africa and the rest of the world. Founded in 1963 in opposition to the apartheid system being practiced in South Africa, it became a UWC in 1981 and educates students ages 11–18.

UWC-USA

UWC-USA

UWC–USA was founded in 1982 and is located on the site of the historic Montezuma Castle
near Las Vegas, New Mexico. UWC–USA’s programs emphasize community engagement, wilderness experience, and Southwest studies through weekly service commitments and multiday projects and expeditions. Students study intercultural communication and mediation through the Constructive Engagement of Conflict (CEC) and global-issues programs.
